HIGHLIGHTS OF RECENT EVENTS AT LETTERPRESS BOOKS

Canoeing the Northern Forest Canoe Trail

SATURDAY AUTHOR SIGNINGS!
Meet & Greet author Laurie Apgar Chandler
Saturday March 17th from 10 am to Noon

Author of Upwards, Story of Canoe Adventure

Upwards: The story of the first woman to solo thru-paddle her 13-foot Kevlar canoe on the Northern Forest Canoe Trail is an uplifting memoir about finding the inner strength and faith to achieve a dream, set amid the rich tapestry of the history, wildlife, landscapes and people of New England.

"Upwards is poetically written with joy, spunk and honesty. It is beautifully, utterly descriptive, bringing the bounty of our Maine woods into the heart: the flowers, wildlife, ferns & trees. I love traveling the rivers and lakes with her because Chandler shows the wind, mud and blackflies only as challenges to be overcome. And her historical anecdotes are a fine bonus." - Karen

Thank you for coming for our pizza party and prize drawings.

We had over 100 players who found Waldo in the indie stores with many families playing the game and having a wonderful experience.  They discovered lots of new indie stores they were unaware of in Portland. Many people made it a point to buy something in each of the participating stores. Thank you again to all of the small business owners who participated in the Find Waldo game!

"Black Cat Coffee has amazing homemade ice cream with honey from the Honey Exchange (another Waldo game player!) - who knew they had ice cream too!"

"We have been buying at least one item in each store we visit - makes the game more fun!"

Meet & Greet with Tom Wessels who wrote
Granite, Fire & Fog: The Natural and Cultural History of Acadia

The only book that offers both a natural and a cultural history of Acadia National Park, on Maineís Mount Desert Island.
Tom Wessels, an ecologist, naturalist, and avid hiker, attributes the  park's popularity, a unique way in which earth, air, fire, and water in the form of glacially scoured granite, winter winds, fire, and ocean fog. All this has converged to create a landscape that can be found nowhere else.

In this beautifully illustrated book, Wessels invites readers to investigate the remarkable natural history of Mount Desert Island, along with the unique cultural story it gave rise to. This account of nature, terrain, and human interaction with the landscape will delight those who like to hike these bald summits, ride along the carriage roads, or explore the islandís rugged shoreline. Wessels concludes with a guided tour of one of his favorite hikes, a ten-mile loop that will acquaint the reader with the diverse ecosystems described throughout his book.

      Author Signing with Paul Doiron!

Paul introduced Knife Creek, his newest Mike Bowditch, Maine Game Warden mystery.

An exhilarating new mystery.  See how Mike's responsibility level increases while maintaining his humanity, vulnerability and sense of humor, as he works with old friends to track down the killer. The wonderful addition of Shadow, the "wolfdog" adds much to the book's appeal for our mystery-loving customers.

We especially like his descriptions of the rural Maine with the down & dirty characters as well as those who truly care about their neighbors and keeping our beautiful state and wildlife protected from harm.
